Young people work together on a laptop in front of a glass wall covered with colourful sticky notes

Some people love inventing slogans and planning campaigns, others enjoy closing a deal and keeping a client happy for years. The Marketing and Sales bachelor’s programme at WSB Merito University in Chorzów brings both worlds together and is taught in English. Over six semesters students learn market research, brand management and sales psychology, work with real business tools and spend a long placement with employers — and at the end you can check whether this path suits you.

⇑A programme where marketing meets sales

Marketing and Sales is a first-cycle programme run by WSB Merito University in Chorzów, with classes in Chorzów and Katowice. It lasts six semesters and is taught in English, while Polish language classes are part of the language offer for those who want them. The aim is practical: graduates should know how to promote products and services, understand customers and turn that understanding into business decisions.

The study plan combines advanced marketing and sales techniques with market analysis and consumer behaviour. Students also learn how to create advertising campaigns, build brands, sell both online and in traditional ways, plan marketing activities, manage projects and build lasting relationships with customers.

⇑From economics to brand management

The first part of the programme lays the foundations. The list of major-specific courses is long and fairly broad, which gives students a solid view of how a business works before they specialise. It includes, among others:

  • fundamentals of economics, management, law, sociology and psychology,
  • fundamentals of marketing, communication and corporate finance,
  • marketing research and consumer behaviour,
  • brand management and marketing communications,
  • means and techniques of sales, negotiations in business and the psychology of sales and marketing,
  • modern technologies in sales and marketing, marketing planning and project management.

There are also less obvious subjects, such as philosophy, the protection of intellectual property rights, organisational studies and a course on effective learning and creating projects. Fundamentals of IT and office applications and a foreign language complete the picture.

⇑Two specialisations

Students choose one of two specialisations. Innovative Marketing focuses on the digital side of the job. Students learn to design campaigns that engage audiences, map the customer journey across online and offline touchpoints, build relationships with a brand on social media, design user-oriented websites and use web analytics to support strategic decisions. Courses cover e-marketing, content marketing tools, search marketing and content optimisation, marketing automation, public relations and customer care.

Sales Strategies and Techniques is aimed at those who prefer working directly with clients. It deals with direct and indirect sales, negotiation, recognising client types and tailoring offers to their needs, applying sales psychology, building sales structures and managing sales teams. Subjects include sales strategies and planning, merchandising, trade virtualisation, domestic, cross-border and international trade, and distribution logistics.

⇑Learning with real tools

The university puts a clear emphasis on practice. Classes are built around group projects based on real business problems, market simulations, case studies and lectures by industry practitioners. In both specialisations students manage a marketing agency in the Revas business simulation.

A notable element is the software students get to know during their studies:

  • Brand24 and PROWLY for public relations and media monitoring,
  • Google Analytics, Hotjar and Freshmail in Innovative Marketing,
  • CRM and sales tools such as Xtensio and Saleshandy in Sales Strategies and Techniques.

The list of partners includes companies such as Brand24, Senuto, Empower Media and Punkt Krytyczny.

⇑Placements and the diploma project

Bachelor’s students complete 960 hours of placements, which is 24 weeks. Students who already work in a related job can have that experience credited. Paid internships are possible during the studies, and partner employers help design placement programmes for specific positions. Career support is offered by the career office and the JobTeaser platform.

Instead of a classic individual thesis, students prepare a diploma project in a team. It addresses a practical or theoretical problem in the field, requires a literature review and an original analysis, and is defended before an examination board.

⇑Who is it for and where can it lead

The programme is open to candidates who have completed secondary education and hold a secondary school-leaving certificate. It suits people who are curious about why customers make the choices they do, like working with others and are comfortable communicating in English. Current admission rules and fees are worth checking on the university’s admissions website, as they vary between intakes.

The career paths listed by the university include marketing and sales specialist in international corporations, market analyst, marketing communication strategist in creative agencies, public relations manager and e-commerce consultant. Graduates of Innovative Marketing may work as SEM/SEO, digital marketing, content marketing or marketing automation specialists and web analysts. Sales Strategies and Techniques leads towards roles such as account manager, sales team leader, export specialist or product manager.

⇑Summary

Marketing and Sales at WSB Merito University in Chorzów is a six-semester bachelor’s programme in English that treats marketing and sales as two sides of the same job. Students get a broad business foundation, choose between a digital marketing path and a sales path, work with real tools and spend 960 hours on placements. The final team project and the list of career paths show a clear orientation towards practical work in companies and agencies.
