Leading teams in English: Management at the University of Business and Administration in Gdynia (WSAiB) + test

A young man leads an outdoor seminar for a group of students outside a modern building.

Managing a company rarely means sitting alone over spreadsheets. Much more often it means talking to people, negotiating, persuading, organising team work and running projects, frequently with partners from other countries. Master's studies in Management at the University of Business and Administration in Gdynia (WSAiB) focus on exactly these skills, and the whole programme is taught in English, in an international group of students — and at the end you can check whether this path suits you.

⇑What Management at master's level is about

A bachelor's degree usually gives a broad picture of how organisations work. At master's level the focus shifts towards making decisions and taking responsibility for them. Students of Management at the University of Business and Administration in Gdynia (WSAiB) are prepared to implement process management and to run projects in enterprises.

Process management means looking at a company as a chain of connected activities rather than a set of separate departments. A manager who thinks this way asks how work flows from one team to another, where it slows down and what can be improved. Project management, in turn, is about reaching a specific goal with a limited budget, team and time.

Graduates are qualified to work as organisation and management specialists and as managers in enterprises and institutions. The programme also prepares them to run their own business.

⇑Skills that go beyond theory

According to the university, the diploma certifies effective management skills. In practice this means a set of abilities that are useful in almost any organisation:

  • communicating clearly with different people,
  • negotiating and reaching agreements,
  • convincing others to an idea or a solution,
  • organising and coordinating team work.

These so-called soft skills are supported by knowledge from several fields. Graduates learn about psychology, modern marketing, logistics and human resources management. Psychology helps to understand how people behave at work and how they react to change. Marketing and logistics show how a product reaches the customer, and human resources management deals with recruiting, motivating and developing employees.

⇑Two specialisations to choose from

At master's level students can choose one of two specialisations: International Business or Project Management.

The first is a natural choice for people who want to work with foreign markets, trade partners and companies operating in many countries. The second suits those who like planning, setting priorities and making sure that a team delivers results on time. Both paths fit the international character of the programme.

⇑Learning from real business cases

Lecturers stress the role of the case-study approach. Instead of only memorising definitions, students analyse real situations from the business world, draw their own conclusions and use them to develop effective management strategies. The work is based on proven business models.

This method teaches analytical thinking. A case usually has no single correct answer, so students have to weigh arguments, look at data and defend their choices in a discussion, which is very close to what managers do every day.

⇑English as the language of study

The entire course is conducted in English, and the diploma is also issued in English. Studying in an international group of students is an additional advantage: everyday contact with people from different cultures is good preparation for working in international companies.

Students can also choose one additional language. The options are English at A1 or B2 level, as well as Spanish, Russian or German at A1 level.

⇑Three ways to study

The programme can be completed in three modes. Full-time students have classes on three days of the week, from Monday to Wednesday. Part-time studies take place every other weekend. There is also an online mode, in which classes are conducted remotely and only two mandatory on-campus teaching sessions and selected examinations during the semester take place at the university, from Friday to Sunday.

This flexibility matters for people who already work or live far from Gdynia.

⇑Who can apply

Poland follows the Bologna system. This means that graduates of bachelor's or uniform master's studies can enrol in any master's major without making up programme differences, so the programme is open also to people whose first degree was in a different field. Current admission rules are worth checking on the university's recruitment website, as they may differ between intakes.

The university cooperates with Pomorski Employers (Pracodawcy Pomorza), a regional employers' organisation. Together they carry out activities connecting science and business, such as conferences, seminars and student placements. The university also lists cooperation with several companies, including a firm offering training and coaching.

⇑Where graduates work

Graduates find jobs in operational, analytical and management positions in enterprises, in state and local government administration, in consulting agencies and in non-profit organisations. The programme prepares them especially for work in international enterprises and trade companies, in agencies and public offices dealing with international business entities, and in foreign companies represented in Poland.

In companies connected with foreign markets, typical places of work include sales and marketing departments, quality control departments, logistics centres and financial centres.

⇑Summary

Management at master's level at the University of Business and Administration in Gdynia (WSAiB) combines soft skills, knowledge of psychology, marketing, logistics and human resources, and work on real business cases. Two specialisations, International Business and Project Management, help to sharpen a professional profile, while studying entirely in English, in an international group, prepares graduates for working in international companies. Three study modes make it possible to fit the programme into different life situations.
