Why study it:

Painting at Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa (UJD) is a two-year Master's (second-cycle) programme with a general academic profile, taught in English at the Faculty of Art. It is for painters who want to develop independent artistic work and play an active part in the art market and in cultural projects.

Programme: classic techniques meet new media

The syllabus combines classic easel and architectural painting techniques and a broad knowledge of art history with new media, scenography, graphics, photography, intermedia and the basics of interior design. You study the theory and history of painting and learn to analyse and critically evaluate art, both historical and contemporary. The programme also covers industrial property protection, copyright law and intellectual property management. Students are encouraged to take part in artistic and academic activities outside the University – organising exhibitions and student conferences and joining student groups.

Specialisation: easel painting or painting in architecture

You choose one of two specialisations: easel painting, or painting in architecture and urbanism.

Exchanges: Erasmus partners across Europe and beyond

Students are encouraged to go on exchanges, e.g. within the Erasmus programme, with partners such as:

  • the University of Koblenz-Landau in Germany,
  • the Catholic University of Ružomberok and the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica in Slovakia,
  • the University of Zadar and the University of Rijeka in Croatia,
  • the Art and Design University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania,
  • the Academies of Fine Arts in Urbino and Carrara, Italy,
  • as well as universities in Vietnam, China and Tunisia.

Qualifications: Master of Arts

Graduates receive the professional title of magister sztuki (Master of Arts), with a specialisation in easel painting or in painting in architecture and urbanism.

After graduation: independent artist, culture animator, doctorate

The programme prepares you for independent creative work, for the art market and for roles such as an animator of cultural activities or a coordinator of art and culture projects. You learn to initiate solo and joint projects, manage teamwork, build contacts with cultural institutions and find partners and funding for your artistic work.

Graduates are also prepared to continue at doctoral level.
