Why study it:

Sport Management at the Gdańsk University of Physical Education and Sport (AWFiS) is a two-year, full-time master’s programme with a practical profile, taught in English. It is designed for graduates who want to build a career on the business and organisational side of sport.

Programme: the business of sport

The programme focuses on work in the sport industry: managing sport organisations and teams, managing sport infrastructure and organising sport events. Graduates are prepared to work both with professional athletes and with everyone else who practises sport. Classes are run by researchers, specialists in the relevant fields and coaches of national teams.

The emphasis is on how sport actually functions in practice. Students learn to manage different types of sport organisations, design and build a sports brand, choose and implement marketing activities, organise sponsorship and use public relations tools, as well as to set up independent business and social initiatives in sport. This combination of sport and management sets the programme apart from both a general sport degree and a management and marketing degree.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Management
Management (or managing) is the administration of an organization, whether it is a business, a not-for-profit organization, or government body. Management includes the activities of setting the strategy of an organization and coordinating the efforts of its employees (or of volunteers) to accomplish its objectives through the application of available resources, such as financial, natural, technological, and human resources. The term "management" may also refer to those people who manage an organization.
Sport
Sport (British English) or sports (American English) includes all forms of competitive physical activity or games which, through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some cases, entertainment for spectators. Hundreds of sports exist, from those between single contestants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals. In certain sports such as racing, many contestants may compete, simultaneously or consecutively, with one winner; in others, the contest (a match) is between two sides, each attempting to exceed the other. Some sports allow a tie game; others provide tie-breaking methods to ensure one winner and one loser. A number of contests may be arranged in a tournament producing a champion. Many sports leagues make an annual champion by arranging games in a regular sports season, followed in some cases by playoffs.
Sport Management
Sport management is the field of business dealing with sports and recreation. Some examples of sport managers include the front office system in professional sports, college sports managers, recreational sport managers, sports marketing, event management, facility management, sports economics, sport finance, and sports information.
Management
The remarkable thing about management is that a manager can go on for years making mistakes that nobody is aware of, which means that management can be a kind of a con job.

Management
A company will get nowhere if all of the thinking is left to management.

Management
Administration is the most obvious part of government; it is government in action; it is the executive, the operative, the most visible side of government, and is of course as old as government itself.
