⇑Why choose Instructor and Other Specialisations in Sport at AWFiS?

Why study it:

Instructor and Other Specialisations are a specialisation within the Sport programme (bachelor’s) at the Gdańsk University of Physical Education and Sport (AWFiS) – a three-year, full-time course with a practical profile, taught in English. They are for students who want to add a second sport, a fitness qualification or skills in sport business, media or analytics to their coaching path.

Programme: what you can choose from

The pool of instructor and other specialisations at bachelor’s level includes:

  • instructor specialisations in gymnastics, judo, basketball, bodybuilding, athletics, football, handball, volleyball, swimming, sport and dynamic shooting, tennis, sailing and board sailing (windsurfing and kiteboarding)
  • fitness – weight exercises, and fitness – modern forms of gymnastics
  • motor preparation, motor preparation in martial arts, and personal trainer
  • sport analytics and sport devices
  • sport communication and journalism, and wellness
  • business models, sport management and the organisation of sport events

Specialisation: how it fits into your degree

On the bachelor’s Sport programme at AWFiS every student takes one coaching specialisation in an Olympic sport. On top of that you choose at least one additional specialisation from this pool – an instructor specialisation in a sport other than your coaching one, or one of the other specialisations. The idea behind the system is simple – a wider set of competences makes you more competitive on the labour market.

Labs: practice on campus

Practical classes have plenty of space: the AWFiS campus in the Oliwa district of Gdańsk has 5 outdoor sports fields, 13 gyms, 2 sports halls and a swimming pool, plus laboratories for exercise physiology, biomechanics and performance psychology.

Qualifications: qualifications on top of the degree

What you can gain

  • Degreebachelor’s degree in sport
  • Coachingsport trainer qualification in the discipline of your coaching specialisation
  • Additionalinstructor qualifications offered within the programme, or competences in a non-coaching area such as fitness, analytics or sport management

After graduation: more than one door open

Graduates of the Sport programme can work in sports clubs and organisations, in units dealing with sport within local government, or in sport-related businesses that commercialise sports and recreation services. A specialisation in business models, sport management or event organisation strengthens the business side of that profile, while instructing a second sport widens the range of groups you can work with.
