⇑Why choose the Geopolitics specialisation (Master's) at Lazarski University in Warsaw?

Dlaczego warto studiować w Akademii Łazarskiego w Warszawie
Why study it:

Geopolitics is a specialisation within the International Relations programme at Lazarski University in Warsaw, taught in English over two years of full-time master's studies. It gives you the analytical skills to read a changing world order and to judge where the next risks will come from.

Programme: strategy, risk and security

The curriculum covers:

  • global geopolitics, including the strategic interests of states and the influence of geography and culture
  • international relations theory and strategic studies
  • geopolitical analysis, with methods for assessing risk, data sources and forecasting techniques
  • international security, from terrorism to cyber warfare, and how to manage such threats
  • intercultural communication in international relations

Specialisation: a world in transformation

Geostrategic tensions, armed conflicts, shifting alliances, energy crises, migration pressures and climate change are reshaping the international order, and public administration, diplomacy, international organisations and the private sector all need people who can interpret these processes. The specialisation answers that need with interdisciplinary, interactive teaching. In the first year you study energy security and sustainable development, globalisation and regionalisation, and the foundations of geopolitics. In the seminars you choose from topics such as China and the world, geopolitics and the global economy, and open-source intelligence (OSINT).

Placements: internships and career support

Assessment follows professional practice in geopolitical analysis: policy briefs, debates, presentations, research papers and collaborative projects, not only exams.

You can find internships in embassies, intergovernmental organisations and international institutions, and the university's internship portal lists opportunities related to your studies. The Debate Club, the Negotiation Club and the Student Foreign Affairs Club let you meet diplomats, industry professionals, alumni and other experts.

After graduation: analyst, adviser, researcher

Graduates work, for example, as:

  • geopolitical analyst
  • political risk analyst
  • foreign policy advisor
  • global security consultant
  • diplomat
  • scientific researcher

Geopolitics
Geopolitics (from Greek γῆ gê "earth, land" and πολιτική politikḗ "politics") is the study of the effects of geography (human and physical) on politics and international relations. While geopolitics usually refers to countries and relations between them, it may also focus on two other kinds of states: de facto independent states with limited international recognition and; relations between sub-national geopolitical entities, such as the federated states that make up a federation, confederation or a quasi-federal system.
