European Studies is a specialisation within the International Relations programme at Lazarski University in Warsaw, taught in English over three years of full-time bachelor's studies. It is for you if you want to understand how the European Union works and how Europe acts in the world.
European Studies looks at the political, social, economic and cultural processes across Europe, combining local and global perspectives. You see how decisions taken at the European level shape the everyday lives of citizens, states and institutions, and how Europe's actions affect global security, trade and environmental protection.
You study the political systems of Central and Eastern Europe and of Western Europe, and the mechanisms of European integration, including governance structures, policymaking and international cooperation. Courses in international law and economics give you tools to assess the legal and economic frameworks that influence the continent. You also explore the roots of European civilisation and the idea of a shared European identity, alongside diplomacy, negotiation, foreign policy and security. Issues such as sustainable development, migration and climate change appear throughout, as challenges for European policy.
The programme gives you room to apply what you learn:
The programme is taught in English, and you improve your skills in key European languages, with French or German on offer as language electives.
