⇑Why study English in Management at master's level at WSB University?

Dlaczego warto studiować w Akademii WSB
Why study it:

English in Management at WSB University (Akademia WSB) is an interdisciplinary master's programme taught entirely in English. It is designed for people who want to combine expert business English with solid knowledge of management, marketing and international business.

Programme: language, management and business

The programme joins communication in business, international and intercultural settings with elements of linguistics and management, including specialised written and simultaneous translation. English is treated as the main working tool of global business.

Alongside language skills you study how companies are organised and what shapes their culture, human resources management, types of companies, the capital and investment markets, finance, insurance, marketing and advertising, mergers and acquisitions, business ethics, corporate social responsibility and leadership. The teaching staff combine academic achievements in economics, management and English philology with professional experience from international organisations, and regular meetings with practitioners let you talk to people who share their work.

Specialisation: three specialisations

You choose one of three specialisations: Translation in Business, Intercultural Business Communication or English in E-Business. All of them build on the same core of expert English, management knowledge and intercultural business communication, and you choose the one closest to the career you have in mind.

After graduation: skills you take away

The programme is designed for people who want to work in international companies, and during your studies you learn, among other things, how to:

  • prepare business presentations and commercial correspondence in English and translate business contracts
  • negotiate and work in intercultural teams
  • manage time, cope with stress and burnout, and motivate employees
  • plan innovative business projects, write a business plan and seek external funding
  • use market research and marketing techniques and influence customers
  • work in teams and understand the specifics of multicultural teams

⇑Definitions and quotes

Management
Management (or managing) is the administration of an organization, whether it is a business, a not-for-profit organization, or government body. Management includes the activities of setting the strategy of an organization and coordinating the efforts of its employees (or of volunteers) to accomplish its objectives through the application of available resources, such as financial, natural, technological, and human resources. The term "management" may also refer to those people who manage an organization.
Management
Management is defined here as the accomplishment of desired objectives by establishing an environment favorable to performance by people operating in organized groups. Each of the managerial functions (planning, organizing, staffing, , directing, and controlling) is analyzed and described in a systematic way. As this is done, both the distilled experience of practicing managers and the findings of scholars are presented. This is approached in such a way that the reader may grasp the relationships between each of the functions, obtain a clear view of the major principles underlying them.
Harold Koontz and Cyril O'Donnell. Principles of Management; An Analysis of Managerial Functions. 1968, p. 1
Management
In the long-run the workman may be as necessary to his master as his master is to him, but the necessity is not so immediate.
Adam Smith (1776) The Wealth of Nations Chapter VIII, p. 80
Management
In the past the man has been first; in the future the system must be first. This in no sense, however, implies that great men are not needed. On the contrary, the first object of any good system must be that of developing first-class men.
Frederick Winslow Taylor (1911) Principles of Scientific Management. p. 2
