1. Your satellite positioning survey shows errors of several centimetres. What do you do?

I analyse satellite geometry, signal obstructions and reference station data, then reprocess the observations. I repeat the measurement and hope it’s better. I accept the results as they are.

2. How do you feel about processing millions of points from a terrestrial laser scan of a building?

Excited – registering, filtering and modelling point clouds is exactly what I want to master. It’s OK if the software does most of the work. It sounds tedious and pointless.

3. Data from two sources use different coordinate reference systems. How do you deal with it?

I identify both systems, choose the right transformation and check its accuracy on control points. I’d ask a colleague which button to click. I’d overlay them anyway and ignore the shift.

4. You need to design a spatial database for a city’s utility network. How does that sound?

Interesting – I’d plan the data model, topology rules and queries for future users. Fine, if a template is provided. Not for me at all.

5. You’re asked to create a 3D model of a quarry using drone imagery. How do you respond?

Gladly – I’d plan flights and ground control points, process the photogrammetry and compute volumes. I’d help with flying the drone but not the processing. I’d decline.

6. A bridge needs regular monitoring for deformation. Would you like to run such a project?

Yes – designing a precise monitoring network and interpreting small movements is a real responsibility I’d enjoy. Maybe as part of a team, not leading it. No, it seems too demanding.

7. How do you feel about writing scripts to automate spatial analyses?

I like it – automation saves time and makes analyses repeatable. I’d try it but prefer ready-made tools. I avoid programming entirely.

8. The Master’s is taught in English, in an international group. How do you see that?

As a big plus – geoinformatics standards and software are global, and I’m happy to work on projects in English. As a challenge – I understand technical texts but speak less confidently. I’d rather study only in my own language.

9. Which role sounds most like your future?

Leading surveying or GIS projects, working in research on geospatial data or developing geoinformation systems. A technical job, I’m not sure which yet. Something unrelated to geospatial work.

10. What motivates you most to pursue a Master’s degree in Geodesy and Geoinformatics?

Working with precise spatial data and modern technologies that help plan cities, infrastructure and the environment. Improving my qualifications and earning more. I’m not sure it’s for me
