Why study it:

International Business at the University of Gdańsk (UG) is a full-time, first-cycle (Bachelor's) programme taught entirely in English at the Faculty of Economics and lasting 3 years (6 semesters). It is aimed at school leavers who want to understand how companies trade, market and finance their activities across borders and who see themselves working in international teams.

Programme: trade, finance and cultural differences in business

The curriculum combines international trade, marketing, transport, finance, globalisation and international business relations. A distinct thread runs through cultural differences in business, which prepares you to work in teams that are diverse in culture and language. You learn to analyse international economic and social phenomena with that cultural context in mind, and some classes are taught together with business practitioners and industry experts.

Labs: LSEG Eikon Lab, SAP, Statistica and SPSS

A large part of the practical work happens in computer labs:

  • the London Stock Exchange Group Eikon Lab for working with economic and market data
  • SAP used in logistics
  • Statistica and SPSS for statistical data analysis
  • free access to Microsoft and IBM software, including Office 365, Project Professional, SQL Server, Visual Studio, Visio and IBM SPSS
  • global databases and academic publications, student zones and public computer stations

Languages: English plus further foreign languages

All classes are held in English, and the programme also includes foreign language courses aimed at a high level of proficiency in both speaking and writing.

Exchanges: Erasmus+ and bilateral agreements worldwide

You can spend part of your studies abroad through Erasmus+, which is widely used at the Faculty of Economics. Bilateral agreements signed by the faculty also open the way to partner universities further afield, including the USA, China, Japan, Australia and Korea. Outside class there are student organisations, research clubs and the international AIESEC network.

Qualifications: an international certificate from the Eikon Lab

After graduation: international corporations, trade and analysis

The programme prepares graduates to work in international corporations and businesses focused on global markets. Typical areas are international marketing and sales, import and export, supply chain and logistics, market and financial analysis, and international project work.

Did you know? The degree grew out of an English-language specialisation that the Faculty of Economics has been running since 2008.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Business
Business is the activity of making one's living or making money by producing or buying and selling goods or services. Simply put, it is "any activity or enterprise entered into for profit. It does not mean it is a company, a corporation, partnership, or have any such formal organization, but it can range from a street peddler to General Motors." The term is also often used colloquially (but not by lawyers or public officials) to refer to a company, but this article will not deal with that sense of the word.
International
International mostly means something (a company, language, or organization) involving more than a single country. The term international as a word means involvement of, interaction between or encompassing more than one nation, or generally beyond national boundaries. For example, international law, which is applied by more than one country and usually everywhere on Earth, and international language which is a language spoken by residents of more than one country.
International Business
International business consists of trades and transactions at a global level. These include the trade of goods, services, technology, capital and/or knowledge.

[A Jew] should make Torah his principal occupation and his work his casual one. He should minimize his business pursuits and occupy himself with Torah. And he should remove fleeting pleasures from his heart, and work each day enough to maintain himself. ... The rest of the day and night, he should occupy himself with Torah.
Rema, Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'a, 246:21, in "Separation from the Worldly (Perishut)"
Business
Everybody knows by now, all businessmen are completely full of shit; just the worst kind of low-life, criminal, cocksuckers you could ever wanna' run into – a fuckin' piece of shit businessman. And the proof of it, the proof of it is, they don't even trust each other. They don't trust one another. When a business man sits down to negotiate a deal, the first thing he does is to automatically assume that the other guy is a complete lying prick who's trying to fuck him outta his money. So he's gotta do everything he can to fuck the other guy a little bit faster and a little bit harder. And he's gotta do it with a big smile on his face. You know that big, bullshit businessman smile? And if you're a customer – Whoah! – that's when you get the really big smile. Customer always gets that really big smile, as the businessman carefully positions himself directly behind the customer, and unzips his pants, and proceeds to service...the...account. 'I am servicing this account. This customer needs service.' Now you know what they mean. Now you know what they mean when they say, 'We specialize in customer service.' Whoever coined the phrase 'let the buyer beware' was probably bleeding from the asshole. That's business.
George Carlin, You Are All Diseased (1999)
