Why study it:

The University of Agriculture in Krakow (URK) runs Renewable Energy Sources and Waste Management as full-time Master's studies (M.Sc.) in English at the Faculty of Production and Power Engineering – 3 semesters. The programme is for engineers who want to design, run and improve installations producing energy from renewable sources and to deal with waste management.

Programme: engineering, economics and law of RES and waste

The studies combine engineering with environmental management. You gain knowledge of:

  • engineering design of equipment, installations and structures generating energy from renewable sources
  • waste management and its impact on the natural environment
  • operation and reliability of machines and equipment used in renewable energy and waste management
  • economics and law relevant to engineering work in this area, including the function and development of rural areas
  • rules of creating and developing a business based on renewable energy and waste management

Languages: an engineering programme in English

All classes are taught in English – it is part of the URK Study in English offer of Master's studies.

After graduation: analysis, supervision and your own business

Graduates can analyse processes typical of renewable energy and waste management on their own and optimise them with analytical methods and simulation. They critically evaluate existing technical solutions, formulate engineering tasks and take into account their environmental, economic and legal aspects. They can plan and supervise the operation of machinery, equipment and systems to keep them running without failure. The programme also develops an entrepreneurial mindset and teamwork in different roles.

As of the 2026/27 admissions, based on the programme page at urk.edu.pl.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Energy
In physics, energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object in order to perform work on, or to heat, the object. Energy is a conserved quantity; the law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed. The SI unit of energy is the joule, which is the energy transferred to an object by the work of moving it a distance of 1 metre against a force of 1 newton.
Management
Management (or managing) is the administration of an organization, whether it is a business, a not-for-profit organization, or government body. Management includes the activities of setting the strategy of an organization and coordinating the efforts of its employees (or of volunteers) to accomplish its objectives through the application of available resources, such as financial, natural, technological, and human resources. The term "management" may also refer to those people who manage an organization.
Renewable Energy
Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, which are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Renewable energy often provides energy in four important areas: electricity generation, air and water heating/cooling, transportation, and rural (off-grid) energy services.
Waste
Waste (or wastes) are unwanted or unusable materials. Waste is any substance which is discarded after primary use, or is worthless, defective and of no use.
Management
Management of many is the same as management of few. It is a matter of organization.
Sun Tzu (c. 6th century BC) The Art of War
Management
You manage things, you lead people. We went overboard on management and forgot about leadership. It might help if we ran the MBAs out of Washington.
Grace Hopper (1987), quoted in "The Wit and Wisdom of Grace Hopper" by Philip Schieber, OCLC Newsletter, No. 167 (March/April 1987)
Energy
E = mc²
Albert Einstein, The equivalence of matter and energy was originally expressed by the equation m = L/c², which easily translates into the far more well known E = mc² in Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? published in the Annalen der Physik (27 September 1905) : "If a body gives off the energy L in the form of radiation, its mass diminishes by L/c²."
