1. Before a new car part is made, engineers test it on a computer. How do you feel about that?

Fascinated – simulating stress, heat and movement before anything is built is clever and saves money. It’s OK, but I’d rather see the real thing. It doesn’t interest me.

2. How do you feel about designing objects in 3D CAD software?

I enjoy it – modelling parts and assemblies in detail is satisfying. I’ve tried it, it’s fine in small doses. I’d avoid it.

3. A simulation shows your bracket design will crack under load. What do you do?

I find where the stress concentrates, change the shape or material and run the analysis again. I make it thicker everywhere and hope it’s fine. I’d leave it to someone else.

4. How do you feel about maths and physics – forces, vibrations, heat transfer?

I like them – they’re the foundation of reliable simulations. I can manage, but they’re not my favourite. I try to avoid them.

5. Which task would you pick?

Building a digital twin of a machine to predict when it needs maintenance. Drawing simple 2D plans from someone’s sketch. Neither.

6. How do you feel about checking a virtual model against a real 3D-printed prototype in the lab?

Great – comparing simulation with real tests tells me how accurate my model is. I’d do it if necessary. Lab work isn’t for me.

7. The programme is taught in English, and you’ll work in project teams with students from many countries. What do you think?

Excellent – engineering software, documentation and global product teams all use English. Reading is fine, but discussing technical details in English would be tough. I’d rather study in my own language, with people from my own country.

8. Your team must present a virtual prototype to a client who isn’t an engineer. How do you react?

I’d prepare clear animations and explain the results in simple terms. I’d show the raw data and let them figure it out. I’d refuse to present.

9. Which future job sounds most like you?

Simulation engineer, CAD/CAE designer or product development engineer. Some technical job, I’m not sure which. Something with no engineering at all.

10. What motivates you most to study Virtual Prototyping?

The chance to design and test products digitally before they are built. Good job prospects in engineering. I’m not sure it’s for me
