The Asklepios Program is a six-year MD programme run by the Faculty of Medicine of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin (PUM) for German nationals. It suits those who want to begin medicine in English in Szczecin and then move their clinical training to German hospitals of the Asklepios group.
The first three years are semester-based and taught in English at PUM and its two clinical hospitals. They concentrate on morphological sciences, the scientific basis of medicine and preclinical sciences.
In the fourth and fifth years the course switches to a block system built around four domains: behavioural sciences with elements of professionalism, clinical sciences, clinical sciences with patient treatment, and the legal and organisational basis of medicine.
The sixth year consists only of practical training – 30 weeks in:
You start in English and finish in German: years 1–3 are taught in English, while the fourth to sixth years are designed for training and study in Germany, where fluent German lets you work directly with German doctors and patients.
What sets the programme apart is its link with Asklepios. Already in the early years you attend additional seminars and practical classes led by German doctors from Asklepios Klinikum Uckermark GmbH – both at PUM in Szczecin and in the Asklepios hospital in Schwedt. In the fourth, fifth and sixth years seminars and practical classes take place in Asklepios hospitals in Schwedt and Pasewalk, so your clinical training happens in a German healthcare setting.
