Why study it:

Medicine at the Medical University of Bialystok (MUB) is a six-year (12-semester) long-cycle programme taught in English by the English Division. It suits students who want to learn medicine in small groups within an international community, with hands-on clinical training from the early years.

Programme: from anatomy to clinical rotations

The programme starts with the theoretical medical sciences – among others anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, clinical genetics, pharmacology and medical ethics. Clinical subjects follow, including internal medicine, paediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, oncology and neurology. The sixth year is practical clinical teaching in hospital wards and clinics, with rotations in the main clinical fields, emergency medicine, family medicine and a speciality of your choice.

Labs: simulation centre, teaching hospitals and research units

Practical classes and research take place in:

  • the Centre for Medical Simulation, where practical classes are held during your studies,
  • two teaching hospitals in the city centre, within walking distance of the campus,
  • eight research units, including the Clinical Research Centre and Experimental Medicine Centre,
  • study clubs and student organisations, where students take part in clinical trials, practise skills and present at scientific conferences,
  • the library, with learning tools such as AMBOSS and BrowZine.

Placements: placements after every year

Each year ends with a summer placement in hospital wards, outpatient clinics or emergency medical services.

Placements include nursing practice (4 weeks), family medicine (3 weeks), emergency care (1 week), internal medicine (4 weeks), and two weeks each of intensive care, general surgery, paediatrics, and obstetrics and gynaecology.

Languages: a pre-course with Polish and medical English

Before the first year, all students take a mandatory three-week pre-course that revises biology (16 hours), chemistry (32 hours) and physics (30 hours), gives you basic fluency in Polish (18 hours) and strengthens your English medical and science terminology.
