⇑Why study Data Science and Business Analytics (Master's) at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw?

Why study at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw
Why study it:

Data Science and Business Analytics is a four-semester Master's programme taught entirely in English at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw (WNE UW). It is meant for people fascinated by quantitative analysis in economics, finance, business or the social sciences, who already have solid foundations in statistics, mathematics and programming.

Programme: four pillars of data and economics

The programme combines data science, econometrics, machine learning and programming with the soft skills that turn analysis into strategic decisions. It rests on four pillars: advanced quantitative methods, practical IT and programming skills (Python, R, SQL, SAS and other tools), deep knowledge of economics and finance, and communication in business.

A key element is the Understanding Business course, a bridge between theory and practice. You work on real business projects together with partners from the market and build data-based solutions to real challenges.

Exchanges: double degree with Milan

Two diplomas instead of one. Thanks to cooperation with the University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano), you can earn two degrees: Data Science and Business Analytics from the University of Warsaw and Data Science for Economics from the University of Milan.

After graduation: analysts who understand the economy

Graduates not only analyse data well, but also understand complex economic processes and know how to communicate effectively with business. They are prepared to work in dynamic environments where both analytical precision and the ability to make decisions count. The aim of the programme is to educate specialists who do more than analyse: they take part in strategic decisions.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Analytics
Analytics is the discovery, interpretation, and communication of meaningful patterns in data. Especially valuable in areas rich with recorded information, analytics relies on the simultaneous application of statistics, computer programming and operations research to quantify performance.
Business
Business is the activity of making one's living or making money by producing or buying and selling goods or services. Simply put, it is "any activity or enterprise entered into for profit. It does not mean it is a company, a corporation, partnership, or have any such formal organization, but it can range from a street peddler to General Motors." The term is also often used colloquially (but not by lawyers or public officials) to refer to a company, but this article will not deal with that sense of the word.
Business Analytics
Business analytics (BA) refers to the skills, technologies, practices for continuous iterative exploration and investigation of past business performance to gain insight and drive business planning. Business analytics focuses on developing new insights and understanding of business performance based on data and statistical methods. In contrast, business intelligence traditionally focuses on using a consistent set of metrics to both measure past performance and guide business planning, which is also based on data and statistical methods.
Data
Data ( DAY-tə, DAT-ə, DAH-tə) is a set of values of qualitative or quantitative variables.
Data Science
Data science is an interdisciplinary field of scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data in various forms, either structured or unstructured, similar to data mining.
Science
Science (from Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge") is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe.
Science
We’ve arranged a global civilization in which most critical elements profoundly depend on science and technology. We have also arranged things so that almost no one understands science and technology. This is a prescription for disaster. We might get away with it for a while, but sooner or later this combustible mixture of ignorance and power is going to blow up in our faces.
Sir Ernest Rutherford from The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark (1996), 26.
Business
[A Jew] should make Torah his principal occupation and his work his casual one. He should minimize his business pursuits and occupy himself with Torah. And he should remove fleeting pleasures from his heart, and work each day enough to maintain himself. ... The rest of the day and night, he should occupy himself with Torah.
Rema, Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'a, 246:21, in "Separation from the Worldly (Perishut)"
Business
Everybody knows by now, all businessmen are completely full of shit; just the worst kind of low-life, criminal, cocksuckers you could ever wanna' run into – a fuckin' piece of shit businessman. And the proof of it, the proof of it is, they don't even trust each other. They don't trust one another. When a business man sits down to negotiate a deal, the first thing he does is to automatically assume that the other guy is a complete lying prick who's trying to fuck him outta his money. So he's gotta do everything he can to fuck the other guy a little bit faster and a little bit harder. And he's gotta do it with a big smile on his face. You know that big, bullshit businessman smile? And if you're a customer – Whoah! – that's when you get the really big smile. Customer always gets that really big smile, as the businessman carefully positions himself directly behind the customer, and unzips his pants, and proceeds to service...the...account. 'I am servicing this account. This customer needs service.' Now you know what they mean. Now you know what they mean when they say, 'We specialize in customer service.' Whoever coined the phrase 'let the buyer beware' was probably bleeding from the asshole. That's business.
