Why study it:

Business Management at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (UMCS) is a two-year, full-time Master's programme with a general academic profile, taught in English at the Faculty of Economics. It is for graduates who want to combine management, economics and finance and prepare to lead organisations and support business decisions at various levels.

Programme: three core modules

The programme is built around three core modules: IT and AI Applications in Modern Management, Economic and Financial Aspects of Management, and Human Resource Management and Marketing. Together they combine managerial, financial-analytical, technological and interpersonal skills. You gain advanced knowledge of management and quality studies, extended by selected topics in economics and finance, and learn to analyse and evaluate managerial processes, assess how the environment influences them and prepare strategic decisions.

Equal weight goes to soft skills – leadership, managing people, teamwork, negotiation and business communication – and to a practical approach that uses modern technologies and AI.

Exchanges: MOST, Erasmus+ and a multicultural group

You can complete part of the programme at another university – in Poland through the MOST scheme or abroad through Erasmus+. Studying in a multicultural setting helps you build a network of international professional contacts and practise working in culturally diverse teams. Beyond classes, you can take part in seminars and scientific conferences.

After graduation: management, start-ups or a doctorate

Graduates are prepared to:

  • take managerial and expert roles in companies, public institutions and advisory or social organisations
  • set up their own business, including start-ups that use AI tools
  • manage projects and interdisciplinary teams and support decisions in marketing, finance and operations
  • take part in the digital transformation of organisations
  • work in global companies where English is the main language, or go on to doctoral studies or an MBA

As of the 2026/27 admissions, based on the programme pages at irk.umcs.pl.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Business
Business is the activity of making one's living or making money by producing or buying and selling goods or services. Simply put, it is "any activity or enterprise entered into for profit. It does not mean it is a company, a corporation, partnership, or have any such formal organization, but it can range from a street peddler to General Motors." The term is also often used colloquially (but not by lawyers or public officials) to refer to a company, but this article will not deal with that sense of the word.
Management
Management (or managing) is the administration of an organization, whether it is a business, a not-for-profit organization, or government body. Management includes the activities of setting the strategy of an organization and coordinating the efforts of its employees (or of volunteers) to accomplish its objectives through the application of available resources, such as financial, natural, technological, and human resources. The term "management" may also refer to those people who manage an organization.
Management
Mission is at the heart of what you do as a team. Goals are merely steps to its achievement. Mission has an eternal quality. Goals are time bound and once achieved, are replaced by others.
Patrick Dixon (2005) Building a Better Business - the key to management, marketing and motivation. p. 66
Business
Somewhere in the past. organizations were quite simple, and 'doing business' consisted of buying raw material from suppliers, converting into products, and selling it to customers... For the most part owner-entrepreneurs founded such simple business and worked along with members of their families. The family-dominated business still accounts for a large portion of the business start today.
R. Edward Freeman (2007) Strategic Management: A Stakeholder Approach p. 5
Business
However successful a man may be in his own business, if he turns from that and engages ill a business which he don't understand, he is like Samson when shorn of his locks his strength has departed, and he becomes like other men.
P. T. Barnum, 'Beware of Outside Operations', The Art of Money Getting (1880).
