Why study it:

Space Engineering at AGH University of Krakow is a first-cycle programme leading to a Bachelor of Engineering, built around a systems engineering approach to modern space technologies. It is for students who want to understand how complete space missions are designed, built and operated – integrating hardware, software and mission operations in one framework.

Programme: the full technological stack of a space mission

Developed with industry and research partners, the curriculum covers:

  • spacecraft structures and materials, propulsion and power systems
  • avionics and onboard computing, communication and ground infrastructure
  • payloads, sensors and Earth observation technologies
  • orbital mechanics, flight dynamics, and attitude determination and control systems
  • mission operations and lifecycle management
  • embedded systems, data processing, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity – always in relation to space applications

Labs: projects, simulations and engineering design

Learning is strongly practical and project-based, including simulations and engineering design work. Students have access to modern infrastructure and to collaboration with the space industry and research institutions. The programme follows international standards and practices used in the space sector and prepares students for work in international, interdisciplinary engineering teams.

After graduation: space, high-tech and deep-tech careers

Graduates are prepared for work in spacecraft and satellite design and manufacturing, avionics and embedded software, mission analysis and GNC/ADCS, ground segment engineering and space communication, Earth observation and satellite data processing, mission operations and control centres, and the cybersecurity of space infrastructure. The interdisciplinary profile also opens related fields such as robotics and autonomous systems.

You can continue with a Master's in space technologies and aerospace engineering, mission safety and cybersecurity, space robotics and autonomous systems, or artificial intelligence and data engineering.

Did you know? According to AGH, this is the first undergraduate Space Engineering programme in Poland.

10 questions · two minutes

1. You read about a space mission that’s due to land on another planet. What interests you most?

2. For you, physics and maths at school are…

3. You’re building a water rocket with your school science club. The first launch fails. What do you do?

4. Lectures, technical documentation and team projects will all be in English, and your team will include students from different countries. How does that sound?

5. A satellite orbits the Earth for years in extreme temperatures. What springs to mind?

6. How much experience do you have with coding and electronics?

7. In a team project, everyone is responsible for a different subsystem. How do you work?

8. In space engineering, one small mistake can ruin an entire mission. How do you feel about that?

9. Where do you see yourself after graduating?

10. What motivates you most to study Space Engineering?

⇑Definitions and quotes

Engineering
Engineering is the creative application of science, mathematical methods, and empirical evidence to the innovation, design, construction, operation and maintenance of structures, machines, materials, devices, systems, processes, and organizations. The discipline of engineering encompasses a broad range of more specialized fields of engineering, each with a more specific emphasis on particular areas of applied mathematics, applied science, and types of application. See glossary of engineering.
Space
Space is the boundless three-dimensional extent in which objects and events have relative position and direction. Physical space is often conceived in three linear dimensions, although modern physicists usually consider it, with time, to be part of a boundless four-dimensional continuum known as spacetime. The concept of space is considered to be of fundamental importance to an understanding of the physical universe. However, disagreement continues between philosophers over whether it is itself an entity, a relationship between entities, or part of a conceptual framework.
Engineering
Architects and engineers are among the most fortunate of men since they build their own monuments with public consent, public approval and often public money.
John Prebble, in Disaster at Dundee, 1956. p. 16
Engineering
Engineering: The art of organizing and directing men, and of controlling the forces and materials of nature for the benefit of the human race.
Henry Gordon Stott. Presidential address, 1908, to American Institute of Electrical Engineers. Cited in: Halbert Powers Gillette (1920) Engineering and Contracting. Vol. 54. p. 97
Space
We cannot predict the new forces, powers, and discoveries that will be disclosed to us when we reach the other planets and set up new laboratories in space. They are as much beyond our vision today as fire or electricity would be beyond the imagination of a fish.
Arthur C. Clarke, Space and the Spirit of Man (1965)
