Why study it:

Energy Transition is a second-cycle (Master's) programme at AGH University of Krakow, taught entirely in English, that combines new energy technologies with decarbonisation management, digitalisation and the legal, economic and regulatory side of the energy sector. It is for engineers who want to plan and manage the energy transformation in companies and public institutions.

Programme: technology, regulation and digital tools

The curriculum covers, among other things:

  • renewable energy sources, hydrogen systems, fuel cells and energy storage
  • managing energy transition processes and climate neutrality strategies
  • modelling, optimisation and risk analysis of energy systems
  • EU and global energy policy, support mechanisms and project financing
  • smart grids, IoT in energy and data analysis

Placements: projects and internships with industry

Industry links at a glance

  • Cooperationindustry projects and internships are built into the programme
  • Researchstudents take part in research and development projects

Languages: fully in English

The whole programme is taught in English, which prepares you to work in an international environment – in Poland or abroad.

After graduation: energy, administration and consulting

After graduation you can plan and implement energy transition solutions, analyse and optimise energy processes with digital tools, evaluate technologies for efficiency, cost and environmental impact, and manage decarbonisation projects.

Graduates work in energy companies (generation, distribution, renewable energy development), circular economy and energy storage firms, public administration, international organisations, consulting companies, research and development centres and universities, and in industries cutting CO₂ emissions.

Did you know? The programme grew out of a former specialisation within the Power Engineering field of study.

As of the 2026/27 admissions, based on the programme page at rekrutacja.agh.edu.pl.

10 questions · two minutes

1. A town wants to switch to renewable energy. What questions do you ask first?

2. Someone argues that renewables are too unreliable to build an energy system on. How do you respond?

3. A region whose economy relies on fossil fuels has to go through the transition. What do you see as most important?

4. You’re given a company’s energy use and emissions data. What do you do with it?

5. At Master’s level you’ll analyse energy policies from different countries, write reports and debate in English with people from all over the world. How does that sound?

6. A project calls for a mix of technical, economic and legal knowledge. How do you get on?

7. You have to assess whether investing in energy storage makes sense. What do you take into account?

8. Local residents are worried about a wind farm being built nearby. How do you handle the conversation?

9. What from your studies or work so far best prepares you for this programme?

10. What motivates you most to pursue a Master’s degree in Energy Transition?

⇑Definitions and quotes

Energy
In physics, energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object in order to perform work on, or to heat, the object. Energy is a conserved quantity; the law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed. The SI unit of energy is the joule, which is the energy transferred to an object by the work of moving it a distance of 1 metre against a force of 1 newton.
Energy
The real key word that triggers my rage is the word "energy". When people start talking about positive or negative types, for instance, negative energy — what are you talking about? What do you mean? Let's think about it, what does energy mean? Well, we know what it means, you know, energy from petrol when it's burned and moves a car and makes it move, it's like this. "This room has positive energy." Now, where the fuck is it going, then? It's not moving. It's covering up such woolly thinking, such pathetic nonsense.

Energy
We must proceed with our own energy development. Exploitation of domestic petroleum and natural gas potentialities, along with nuclear, solar, geothermal, and non-fossil fuels is vital. We will never again permit any foreign nation to have Uncle Sam over a barrel of oil.

You will soon be able to tax it.
