Field of studies Visual Arts (studies in English) - Jan Kochanowski University of Humanities and Sciences in Kielce (Uniwersytet Jana Kochanowskiego w Kielcach), UJK (Kielce) - Art - Study Bachelor's and Master's in English in Poland

1. You have a free afternoon. Which would you choose?

Drawing or painting, or visiting a gallery to look closely at works. Scrolling through art on social media. Anything but art.

2. How do you feel about drawing the same object from life many times to improve?

I enjoy it – practice and observation are the basis of everything. I’d do it a couple of times. It sounds boring.

3. Your tutor criticises a painting you’re proud of. How do you react?

I listen, ask questions and use the comments to push my work further. I feel hurt, but I’ll think about it later. I ignore it – I know better.

4. Which techniques would you like to explore during your studies?

Painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and installation – as many as possible. Just one I already know. None in particular.

5. How do you feel about keeping a sketchbook with ideas, notes and studies?

I already do – it’s where most of my ideas start. I’d try it if it was required. I don’t see the point.

6. The programme is taught in English, and your studio group includes students from many countries. How does that sound?

Inspiring – different cultures bring fresh ideas, and the art world speaks English. Nice, but talking about my work in English would be stressful. I’d rather study in my own language, with people from my own country.

7. You need to explain the idea behind your work at an exhibition. How do you feel?

Fine – I’d like people to understand what my work is about. Nervous, but I’d say a few words. I’d rather not talk about my art at all.

8. How do you feel about learning art history and contemporary art theory?

It interests me – knowing what other artists did helps me find my own voice. A little is OK. I just want to make things.

9. Which future path sounds most like you?

Working as an artist, illustrator or in a creative studio or gallery. Something creative as a hobby next to another job. A job with no connection to art.

10. What motivates you most to study Visual Arts?

A strong need to create and to develop my own artistic language. Liking art and wanting to try something creative. I’m not sure it’s for me
