Transmedia Arts

1. You’re asked to develop a story world that will run across a series, an exhibition and an online game. Where do you start?

With a bible of the world – characters, rules, timeline – and a plan for what each medium adds that the others can’t. I’d write the main story and let others adapt it. I wouldn’t know where to start and wouldn’t want to.

2. How do you feel about writing an artistic research thesis that combines your own practice with theory?

I’m keen – reflecting critically on my work through media theory deepens it. I’d manage the practical part, the theory less so. I’d rather avoid theory and research completely.

3. You’re leading a team of a sound artist, a programmer and a performer. How do you see your role?

As a curator and director – I set the concept, coordinate the work and make sure the pieces fit together. I’d prefer someone else to lead and just do my part. I don’t want to work with people from other disciplines.

4. A cultural institution invites proposals for a festival commission. How do you react?

I’d prepare a strong concept, a budget and a production schedule and submit it. I’d think about it, but probably miss the deadline. Applying for commissions isn’t for me.

5. How do you feel about questions like who owns a story when audiences co-create it, or how AI-generated images change authorship?

They fascinate me – I’d like to explore them in my projects and writing. They’re interesting, but I don’t think about them much. Such debates bore me.

6. The programme is taught in English in an international group of artists. How do you see that?

As a big plus – international networks, festivals and residencies all run in English. As a challenge – I can talk about art in English, but writing a thesis is harder. I’d rather study in my own language, with people from my own country.

7. Your previous degree was in one discipline. How do you feel about stepping into new ones, such as game design or performance?

I’m eager – a Master’s is the place to stretch my practice beyond my first field. Cautious – I’d add one new area at most. I want to stay strictly within what I already know.

8. You need to document a live, interactive piece so it can be shown again later. What do you do?

I plan documentation from the start – recordings, scores, technical riders and audience traces. I’d take a few photos on the night. Documentation isn’t important to me.

9. Which future role sounds most like you?

Transmedia artist, creative director of cross-platform projects or curator of media art. Something creative, but I’m not sure what. A job far from art and media.

10. What motivates you most to pursue a Master’s degree in Transmedia Arts?

The chance to develop my own artistic voice across media and to lead ambitious cross-platform projects. Getting another qualification in the arts. I’m not sure it’s for me
