Transmedia Arts

1. You have a short story idea. How would you like to tell it?

Across several media at once – a comic, a short video, a sound piece and an interactive web page that all connect. As a single short film, nothing more. I’d just write it down and leave it at that.

2. How do you feel about trying a medium you’ve never used before, such as projection mapping or field recording?

I love it – experimenting with new tools is half the fun. I’d try it if someone showed me step by step. I’d rather stick to what I already know.

3. Your tutor asks you to turn an empty corridor into an installation with light, sound and video. How do you react?

Brilliant – I’d start sketching how visitors move through the space and what they hear and see. I’d do something simple, like a single projection. I don’t see the point of art in corridors.

4. How do you feel about combining drawing, photography, animation and code in one project?

That’s exactly what excites me – mixing techniques creates something new. I prefer to focus on one or two of them. It sounds chaotic and confusing.

5. You’re asked to present your work at an open critique where classmates comment on it. How do you feel?

I welcome it – honest feedback helps me develop my ideas. I’m nervous, but I’d get through it. I’d rather nobody commented on my work.

6. The programme is taught in English, and you’ll make projects with students from many countries. How does that sound?

Exciting – different cultural references and an international art scene make projects richer. Interesting, but presenting my ideas in English would stress me. I’d rather study in my own language, with people from my own country.

7. A fan community builds stories around a film by making videos, art and games. What do you think?

Fascinating – I’d love to study how audiences join in and extend a story world. It’s a nice hobby for them. It doesn’t interest me at all.

8. Your video project crashes the night before a deadline. What do you do?

I calmly look for a workaround, rescue what I can and maybe turn the glitch into part of the piece. I panic, but eventually hand in something. I’d give up on the project.

9. Which assignment would you choose?

Designing an interactive story that unfolds on social media, in a gallery and in a mobile game. Editing a short video from footage someone else shot. Neither – I’m not into creative projects.

10. What motivates you most to study Transmedia Arts?

The chance to tell stories in new ways by mixing art, media and technology. A general interest in art and media. I’m not sure it’s for me
