Why study it:

Business Administration at the Poznań University of Economics and Business (PUEB) is a three-year Bachelor's (first-cycle) programme taught in English, run as the Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA). It is for students who want to understand how political, social and cultural forces shape economic and business decisions, and to manage organisations across national boundaries and cultures.

Programme: business in a global context

The programme views classical business administration in a global context and combines it with political science, international relations, sociology and management. You look at the challenges faced by today's companies, individuals and economies – resource scarcity, economic growth, financial crises, climate change and inequalities. The first year is the same for all students: mathematics, micro- and macroeconomics, elements of law, fundamentals of finance, management and marketing, financial accounting, organizational behavior and statistics for business and economics.

Specialisation: two tracks from the second year

After the first year, with introductory courses from both areas behind you, you choose one of two tracks:

  • International Business and Management (IBM) – e.g. exporting and importing, foreign market entry and growth, digital marketing in the international marketplace, e-business, business plan essentials, leadership in business,
  • Global Economics (GE) – e.g. geopolitics, geoeconomics, comparative political economy, international development, world economic history, international trade policy,
  • shared by both tracks – cultural diversity and customer behaviour, sustainability in business and economics, international economic relations and market research.

Labs: quantitative methods with R

In the third year both tracks include Applied quantitative methods (with R) – a course in which you work with data using the R language, alongside strong analytical skills developed throughout the programme.

After graduation: business, public sector or a Master's degree

The BBA lets you continue to a Master's degree to broaden or deepen your economic and business knowledge.

It also prepares you to start a career as a specialist in businesses, non-profit organisations, public administration and government (mostly the GE track), as a manager of operational, financial or analytical departments in international corporations and SMEs (mostly the IBM track), or as an entrepreneur running your own firm in domestic and international markets.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Business
Business is the activity of making one's living or making money by producing or buying and selling goods or services. Simply put, it is "any activity or enterprise entered into for profit. It does not mean it is a company, a corporation, partnership, or have any such formal organization, but it can range from a street peddler to General Motors." The term is also often used colloquially (but not by lawyers or public officials) to refer to a company, but this article will not deal with that sense of the word.
Business Administration
Business administration is management of a business. It includes all aspects of overseeing and supervising business operations and related field which include Accounting, Finance and Marketing.
Business
Despatch is the soul of business.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield (1694-1773). Letter, 5 February 1750.
Business
O brave youth, how good for thee it were couldst thou be made to understand how infinitely precious are thy school years—years when thou hast leisure to grow, when new worlds break in upon thee, and thou fashionest thy being in the light of the ideals of truth and goodness and beauty! If now thou dost not fit thyself to become free and whole, thou shalt, when the doors of this fair mother-house of the mind, close behind thee, be driven into ways that lead to bondage, be compelled to do that which cripples and dwarfs; for the work whereby men gain a livelihood involves mental and moral mutilation, unless it be done in the spirit of religion and culture. Ah! well for thee, canst thou learn while yet there is time that it will profit thee nothing to become the possessor of millions, if the price thou payest is thy manhood.
John Lancaster Spalding, Aphorisms and Reflections (1901), pp. 58-59.
Business Administration
The administrative function... insures the continuance of the existing order with a minimum of effort and risk. Its fundamental aim is to "carry on" rather than to venture along new and untried paths. Administrators are, therefore, the stabilizers of society and the guardians of tradition. They are stabilizers in both a positive and a negative sense, for not only do they make possible the continuance of the ideas which they convert into institutions: they also frustrate many innovations to which they deny their support. With the weight of their authority they confront every attempt to initiate a new development, and test it with a view to its effect on established interests. They resist change and stow down the rate of experimentation so that the main body of society can keep pace with it. The ponderous social machinery which is so irritating to the impulsive initiator is thus a safeguard against sudden changes which paralyze the Jess adaptable members of society and which would result in chaos if subjected to no check.
Paul Pigors (1935), Leadership or Domination, Houghton Mifflin Company. p. 264-8; As cited in Albert Lepawsky (1949), Administration, p. 9-10
