Design is a four-year (eight-term) full-time bachelor's programme taught in English at SWPS University, run by the School of Form in Warsaw. It is for you if you want to learn how to think, make and collaborate across design, technology and the humanities.
The programme brings together traditional craftsmanship, advanced technology and humanistic science, and it is built on collaboration between designers, researchers, scientists, humanists and craftspeople. In the first year everyone follows the same foundation programme, exploring both 2D and 3D concepts and mastering specialised tools and software. It is a year for experimenting, and it is hands-on from day one.
The third year is about finding your own voice, as you concentrate on the tools, technologies and methods that match your interests. The final year centres on your graduation project, which has a design part and a descriptive part, with two supervisors guiding you. You also take part in inter-specialisation projects with business and community partners, which are real-world challenges that prepare you for the job market. Your teachers are practitioners, including designers, researchers and educators, who act as mentors rather than only lecturers.
After the foundation year you choose one of three specialisations, and whichever you pick, you keep collaborating with peers from other groups in shared interdisciplinary classes:
You learn in professionally equipped workshops, where traditional craft techniques sit alongside the operation of modern machines. The facilities include an AI Open Lab, a ceramics studio, a computer lab and a digital workshop, and a KUKA robotics workshop. There are also metal, woodworking and sewing workshops, a photo and video studio and a screen printing studio. Many of them are run by practitioners, so you work with people who use these tools professionally.
