Why study it:

Logistics is a specialisation of the Bachelor's degree in Management at the University of Humanities and Economics in Lodz (AHE), and AHE offers this Management programme in English. It is meant for students who want to understand how goods, information and capital flow through the modern global economy – and who want to learn how to manage those flows in practice.

Programme: management methods applied to logistics

The specialisation focuses on putting management methods to work in areas such as:

  • supply chain planning and management
  • transport coordination and managing a transport fleet
  • warehouse management and optimising warehouse processes
  • modern inventory management
  • logistics optimisation – raising operational efficiency by cutting logistics costs and introducing new technologies

Specialisation: decisions under time pressure

Alongside hard analytical skills, the specialisation puts particular emphasis on making sound decisions under time pressure, coordinating cooperation and managing operational teams. Within the wider Management degree, students work on real business cases and take part in workshops. Logistics is one of three specialisations of the programme – the other two are Social Potential Management in Organizations, centred on HR and stakeholder relations, and Project and Process Management.

Languages: Management taught in English

The Management degree is offered in English on AHE's study-in-English pages, and the university links choosing it with international opportunities and a career in Poland or abroad.

After graduation: forwarding, distribution and production

Graduates are prepared to work in forwarding companies, distribution centres, production plants and trading companies, in roles such as logistics specialist, supply chain manager or transport coordinator.

Throughout, the specialisation is built around running modern logistics processes in global business environments.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Logistics
Logistics is generally the detailed organization and implementation of a complex operation. In a general business sense, logistics is the management of the flow of things between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet requirements of customers or corporations. The resources managed in logistics can include physical items such as food, materials, animals, equipment, and liquids; as well as abstract items, such as time and information. The logistics of physical items usually involves the integration of information flow, materials handling, production, packaging, inventory, transportation, warehousing, and often security.
Logistics
It struck me as I waited that all great enterprises are about logistics. Not genius or inspiration or flights of imagination, skill or cunning, but logistics. Building pyramids or landing spacecraft on Jupiter or invading whole continents or painting divine scenes over the roofs of chapels: logistics.
Tom McCarthy, Remainder, Ch. 11 (2005)
Logistics
An army marches on its stomach.
This proverb is variously attributed to Napoleon and to Frederick the Great, but its origin is not known. Oxford Reference reports that it appeared in English in the early 20th century.
Logistics
On my orders, coalition forces have begun striking selected targets of military importance to undermine Saddam Hussein's ability to wage war. These are opening stages of what will be a broad and concerted campaign. More than 35 countries are giving crucial support -- from the use of naval and air bases, to help with intelligence and logistics, to the deployment of combat units. Every nation in this coalition has chosen to bear the duty and share the honor of serving in our common defense.
