⇑Why choose the Artificial Intelligence (AI) specialisation at AHE?

dlaczego-warto-studiowac-w-AHE
Why study it:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a specialisation of the first-cycle engineering programme in Computer Science at the University of Humanities and Economics in Lodz (AHE), taught in English and lasting 3.5 years. It is for students who want a solid base in mathematics and algorithms and then a practical path into machine learning, computer vision and language models.

Programme: from algorithms to large language models

After the mathematical and algorithmic foundations, the specialisation covers:

  • machine learning, deep learning and reinforcement learning
  • computer vision and natural language processing
  • AI frameworks and large language models (LLM)
  • AI ethics and intellectual property protection
  • practical applications and case studies

Specialisation: one of three English-taught tracks

First-cycle Computer Science in English offers three specialisations: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Programming Technologies and Cybersecurity and Cloud Infrastructure. The AI track is the English equivalent of the Polish specialisation Sztuczna inteligencja. All students also build a common base in programming (C/C++, Python, Java, web frameworks, CI/CD), database systems, web technologies, software engineering and computer networks. Classes use project work, workshops and case studies based on real problems in the IT profession.

Languages: the whole programme in English

The programme is taught in English and attracts both Polish and international students interested in an international career in IT.

After graduation: junior ML engineer or a Master's degree

Graduates receive an engineering degree and are prepared for junior roles such as machine learning engineer or AI systems architect, working on chatbots, GPT-style systems and LLMs. Roles named for this path include AI Engineer, Data Engineer, LLM Engineer and LLM Implementation Specialist – in companies developing AI solutions, software and hardware companies, research and development institutions and technology startups.

You can also continue at Master's level, where AHE offers second-cycle Computer Science in English as well.

As of the 2026/27 admissions, based on the programme pages at ahe.lodz.pl.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI, also machine intelligence, MI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence (NI) displayed by humans and other animals. In computer science AI research is defined as the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of successfully achieving its goals. Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem solving".
Intelligence
Intelligence has been defined in many different ways to include the capacity for logic, understanding, self-awareness, learning, emotional knowledge, reasoning, planning, creativity, and problem solving. It can be more generally described as the ability to perceive or infer information, and to retain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behaviors within an environment or context.
Intelligence
We should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful muscles, but no personality.
Albert Einstein, "The Goal of Human Existence", Out of My Later Years (1956), p. 260
Artificial Intelligence
The techniques of artificial intelligence are to the mind what bureaucracy is to human social interaction.
Terry Winograd (1991) "Thinking Machines: Can there be? Are we?"
Intelligence
Each generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.
George Orwell, in a review of A Coat of Many Colours: Occasional Essays by Herbert Read, Poetry Quarterly (Winter 1945).
