3D Graphics and Game Art is a specialisation of the Bachelor's degree in Graphics at the University of Humanities and Economics in Lodz (AHE) – a full-time, 6-semester programme taught in English. It is for students who want to design computer games and virtual reality, creating characters, environments and visual effects with an artistic rather than purely technical approach.
The specialisation is built around three blocks of subjects:
AHE approaches game design from the creative side: the focus is on the artistic look of virtual spaces and game elements rather than on programming. You learn to create the visual style of a game, set and environment elements and characters based on digital painting and concept drawing, and then build what you have designed in 3D using suitable modelling techniques. Classes are taught by specialists from the game industry and by graphic designers.
You work in Autodesk 3ds Max, Figma and the Unreal and Unity engines, covering 3D modelling and animation, audio and video editing and digital painting – with modelling, texturing, lighting and animation as the core skills.
Graduates can work in graphic design teams, in advertising agencies and in the computer game industry. The skills gained also apply to spatial and architectural visualisation.
Throughout the programme you work on real-world projects, so you finish your studies with practical experience in creating visual effects, characters and game environments.
Did you know? Alongside the core design blocks, the specialisation offers a separate course on music in computer games.
