1. In biology you’re covering digestion. What interests you most?

What exactly happens to proteins, fats and carbohydrates in the body, and how that affects health. The general process I need to know for the test. Not much – I’m waiting for the lesson to end.

2. You’re looking at the label on a yoghurt. What do you check?

The ingredients, the sugar and protein content, and whether the portion suits my needs. The use-by date and the calories. Nothing – I buy what I like.

3. Would you like to run a simple experiment, such as testing how cooking affects the vitamin content of vegetables?

Yes – I like testing things in practice and drawing conclusions. I could, if someone gave me instructions. No, experiments don’t interest me.

4. A friend who does sport asks what to eat before a competition. How do you react?

I look up reliable information on sports nutrition and we work out together what makes sense for them. I pass on what I’ve heard. I tell them to ask someone else.

5. In a class taught in English, you read a research article on nutrition and then discuss it in a group with students from different countries. How do you feel?

Comfortable – reading and discussing things in English comes naturally to me. I understand the text, but sometimes struggle to find the words in discussion. It’s too much for me.

6. You hear that lots of students at your school skip breakfast. What comes to mind?

I wonder why, how it affects their concentration and what the school could change. It’s their choice, but it’s a shame. Nothing – I don’t really notice.

7. Who do you think needs particularly well-planned nutrition?

Lots of people – patients, older people, pregnant women, children, athletes – and I’m curious about how their needs differ. Mainly people who want to lose weight. I’ve never thought about it.

8. How do you feel about cooking?

I like experimenting and working out how to make a meal that’s both tasty and nourishing. I cook simple things when I have to. I don’t cook and don’t feel drawn to it.

9. How do you handle a longer school project, especially one that involves collecting data?

I plan the stages, keep careful notes of the results and stick to deadlines. I get it done, though often at the last minute. I prefer short tasks with no data collection.

10. What motivates you most to study Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics?

I want to understand how nutrition affects health and use that knowledge with patients, in research or in nutrition education. An interest in healthy eating. I’m not sure it’s for me
