Researchers at M. Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS experimentally confirmed the determinants of the short-term memory capacity, crucial for the functioning of our consciousness. The Nencki Institute announced that a person can consciously simultaneously operate five to nine portions of information. During processing portions, these portions remain in short-term memory.

Description
The worldwide development of science and technology makes people - employees of design offices, laboratories, production halls, marketing or service companies - face problems rooted in different areas, including the most up-to-date ones, like optoelectronics, photonics or microsystems. The multidisciplinary knowledge becomes a must. Teaching programmes focus on the latest achievements in optoelectronics and optical waveguide technology, which is important for contemporary telecommunications. Secondly, they centre around issues of photovoltaics (alternative energy sources - solar cells), then on the design of optoelectronic devices and systems, and finally on metrology. Special attention is given to subjects connected with sensor systems using electronic, optoelectronic or waveguide technologies.
The teaching programme also focuses on microsystems, as these give start to new advances in almost all the areas of human activity, beginning with the car industry (airbags, ABS, etc), banking (premises and facilities security, intelligent credit cards) to medicine and environment protection (microanalysis of gases, blood, and life science applications). The offered lectures also include computer-aided modeling and optimization methods, which play an important role in designing all the types of electronic, optoelectronic and microsystem devices. The lectures on nanotechnology subjects are also included in order to give a foresight view.
Complementary second level M.Sc. degree studies in the Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems course provide students with an opportunity to develop their knowledge about the latest technologies and systems, thus providing them with a large chance for professional success in the difficult contemporary market.
